This is an easily used guide to what one should try to see in a the various parts of the island. It is a good overview.
Cant go wrong with the pictures and information in the National Geographic books. One of the few I brought along on my 4 month stay in the DR.You'll love everything about this book.
As described!
We are active travelers who explore extensively; we seldom "stay put". We want lots of details and like many recommendations of "sights to see". This disappointing guide contains very basic info about the DR, but lacks depth. The photos are nice, but many of the photo subjects (named waterfalls, for example) do not appear in the index, so you cannot determine exactly where they are. The index is very poorly done; you cannot find "scuba diving" in the index, even though good scuba diving spots are described in the text. There are no highlights of the "Best of" the country's beaches, fishing, sights to see, or anything else. There are no suggestions for how you might spend 7 days or 10 days or 14 days driving the "highlights" of the Dominican Republic. Unless you want a very superficial guide and some pretty pictures, buy a different guide.
Helpful details. A bit out-of-date. Several recommended places don't exist any more.
I am an adict of other travel guides but this met my expectations with full color and lots of detail to make for a wonderful visit to this island paradise.
Packed full of useful tips. Only important thing I did not see was concerning the exit taxes. Good maps with word details close by. Read information to my family straight from book. Took it with me on my travels through the DR.
Needed it for traveling to DR. Loved it. Very insightful and informative. This is one of the most beautiful contries I have visited.
