Praise to The Missing Manual. I purchased THREE 2011 Quickbooks manuals for reference (I find this method preferable to talking to India all day for answers). After searching in the Dummies book and the Pro Guide (both had very vague instructions if any and suggested seeing your accountant(ME)), I opened the Missing Manual and there on page 405, (easy to find in index under BAD DEBT, WRITING OFF), were steps 1 through 10 from creating the bad debt account to applying credit to the invoice. Wow!! Now that's what I call GREAT consulting. Thank you, Missing Manual!!!!
I purchased this book two months after purchasing the QuickBooks - Professional Accounting software through Amazon. I thought, since I know accounting principles and I am well versed in the financial reports, I did not need an instructional manual. Well arrogance on my behalf and I was very much wrong. The software instructions do not go into depth in the se-up and utilization of the product. So, the end-user is left alone to figure it out. Intuit's customer support does provide some initial and free consultation, but after a period is gone.The book (manual) provides insight into the set-up and workings of QuickBooks. It is a helpful and intuitive guide into the software. Useful for users with in depth accounting knowledge (debits/credits, P/L, B/S and Aging reports) and for those without any accounting knowledge, since it is a step by step instruction and explanative manual on how to set-up and utilize the software. It is well written without the technical jargon us laymen may get lost with.For me, it continues to be a reference material for go-to questions. An excellent product.
I am a beginner at Quick Books and bought this book after starting a job where I had to jump right into running the program. It did not help that the person I replaced was not very proficient with it either and told me to just "fool with it". I have not read the book through but just use it like the popular "Dummy" series and just look up what I need to do and go from there. So far, so good. Definitely worth the price if you are trying for on the job training.
Not a book you read from cover to cover. More of a research on how to perform certain functions, but it seems difficult to find whatis needed to know in a timely manner.
I purchased this book to help me learn Quickbooks 2011 because I became the treasurer for our church. I had some basic accounting knowledge from previous college classes but we only used Excel. This book was a life saver. It has lots of tips and tricks to help even the basic computer user. Be advised though, this book is not for MAC users. It states in the intro that this is for Windows-based Quickbooks.
Large volume seems to be very thorough
This manual is informative and quite helpful in acquainting the reader with Quick books. I wish I would have been aware of it several years ago because "Help" provided in the QB program is not all that helpful.
Very helpful in answering questions.
